Gyaru Basic~3

PART 3

Can I be gyaru if...
Q&A!
Yesterday I asked you on insta to send questions starting with "Can I be gyaru if...", Here are the answers~
♡〜٩( ╹▿╹ )۶〜♡

1. Can I be gyaru if I'm not Japanese?
Yes! Non Japanese gyaru are called gaijin gyaru~

2. Can I be gyaru if I'm plus size?
Yes~ Gyaru is all about being confident in your own skin~!

3. Can I be gyaru if I don't wear eyelashes?
It depends on the substyle you're choosing, you can pull off softer styles like kogal, roma or himekaji but styles like manba....( ̄ω ̄;)

4. Can I be gyaru if I'm 14 years old?
You can~ Kogal is a perfect style for gals who still go to school, though most of them were 15+

5. Can I be gyaru if I'm not good at its makeup?
Sure, but it's important to practise as makeup is necessary, expecially in stronger styles.

6. Can I be gyaru if I'm a virgin?
Absolutely not. To be a gyaru we require a bodycount of at least 20.
(jk, it doesn't matter xD)

7. I don't like certain substyles?
Sure, I myself don't like or find interest in some substyles~

8. Can I be gyaru if I wear a hijab?
Yes, and I think it would be cool to wear a yellow hijab to give the vibe of blonde hair~ Modest clothes go against gyaru as gyaru like to show a lot of skin and look slutty but if you focus on accessories and makeup more I believe you can balance and still look gyaru.

9. Can I be gyaru if I have to wear glasses?
Yeah, there are gals who wear glasses!

10. Can I be gyaru if I don't wear it everyday?
This is a hard one. If you wear it just sometimes, I wouldn't say you're a gyaru but rather that you sometimes wear gyaru as gyaru is a subculture, like for example emo. Hovever you don't need to wear it everyday if you stay at home or quickly go to grocery store, just when you go in public.

11. Can I be gyaru if I don't wear gyaru clothes, because they don't sell them where I live?
Yes, you don't need to wear brando to be gyaru! You can use whatever brands of clothes as long as it fits the substyle you chose.

12. Can I be gyaru if I can't wear circle lenses?
Yeah, circle lens are important for eye enlarging but not essential in some styles~

13. Can I be gyaru if I don't wear makeup?
Unfortunally no.
Makeup is the most important in gyaru, and while wrong hair color or style, no nails or brando can be balanced by focusing more on different aspects, without makeup it's not gyaru. You can now say that some of the 90s gyaru from egg magazine didn't wear makeup ad yes, but the reason for that was the fact that at that time egg was focused on male audience who weren't interested in the flashy and confident gals, so the magazine simply simped for men xD There is a good article about this topic on hellolizziebee.
However some styles don't require a strong makeup and you can do it very naturally~

 PART 2

GYARU DICTIONARY

Hi~!૮₍´。ᵔ ꈊ ᵔ。`₎ა Today, I'm going to explain some terminology associated with gyaru. In previous post I briefly explained the substyles so I won't contain it here.

💋 Kuro gyaru - Kuro gyaru (literally "black gyaru") is a term for dark skinned gals. If you tan or are naturally dark skin you're automatically a kuro gyaru no matter of substyle~
💋 Shiro gyaru - Shiro gyaru is the opposite of kuro gyaru. Shiro (meaning 'white") refers to gals who follow the fashion rules of chosen substyle, but don't tan or even avoid sun to stay pale~
💋Gyaruo - male gyaru

💋 Gaijin (foreigner) gyaru - Gyaru who are not Japanese~

💋 Brando - Japanese pronounciation of the word "brand", in gal community means a Japanese gyaru clothing brand.

💋 Droop - empty Space between lower eyelid and makeup. Droop is the main characteristic of gyaru makeup that is necessary in most of the substyles to enlarge and round the eye shape.
💋 Gyarusa/Galsa - "gyaru circle". Gyarusa is a group of gyaru friends that works similiar to a club. Activieties contain meets, dancing parapara and simply having fun~

💋 Parapara - a dance style mostly focused on arm and hand movements, generally to eurobeat music.

💋 Purikura - Japanese photo booths that blur the skin and hair and has filters that make the model look super dolly. Purikura are very customisable and after taking photos you can customize it~! The printed photos are in a form of stickers so you can optionally cut and stick it~ I will make a post about my experience.
💋 Gyaru kei - style that fits the basic gyaru rules but doesn't fit any existing substyle

💋 Modern gyaru - gyaru showing up in Egg Magazine from late 2010s till now, they have a very toned down and casual look
